The Victoria Independent School District (VISD) is continuing to expand its Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and is looking for the communityòòò½ÊÓƵ™s help in broadening its horizons with work-based studying.
With 12 career clusters ranging from agriculture to construction to business, VISDòòò½ÊÓƵ™s CTE offers 23 programs of study for students to explore as viable career paths.
òòò½ÊÓƵœWeòòò½ÊÓƵ™re getting boots on the ground in the field but we need the communityòòò½ÊÓƵ™s help to do more,òòò½ÊÓƵ Dena Justice, CTE Director at VISD said.
The school district is looking to engage students with industries in Victoria with videos, advisory committees, guest speaking opportunities, field trips, job shadows and internships/apprenticeships.
Companies can reach a wide audience and range of students depending on how much time theyòòò½ÊÓƵ™re willing to invest into the program. Career readiness videos show students tips and tricks of their industry and explain particular employability skills.
By joining advisory committees, industry leaders can help ensure talent pipelines in their fields. Field trips give students direct access to worksite environments and job shadows give students firsthand knowledge of day-to-day duties and help students determine whether or not the the job is compatible with their career goals.
Internships and apprenticeships give students a hand-on experience and the CTE students that go through this experience come prepared with a deep level of knowledge gained through concentrated coursework in a specific area of study.
Victoria ISD offers a plethora of opportunities for companies and industry leaders to connect with students and the future of the cityòòò½ÊÓƵ™s workforce.
These CTE programs address industry needs in the community such as agriculture, accounting and financial services, law enforcement and refining and chemical processes.
By offering programs that address industry needs and are tailored towards the economic cornerstones of Victoria, students at VISD are on the path to not just getting jobs, but to establishing long-term careers.
òòò½ÊÓƵœWeòòò½ÊÓƵ™re working to provide students with skills that allow them to work here, live here and raise their families here,òòò½ÊÓƵ Randy Meyer, VISD Deputy Superintendent said.
