Bob Glenn has served as the president of the University of Houston-Victoria since Aug. 1, 2018. Wednesday, he announced his intention to retire in August 2025 in a UHV news article.
Glenn has made a lasting impression on UHV since he first stepped into the role as the universityòòò½ÊÓƵ™s president.
Glenn oversaw multiple expansions of the UHV campus with the openings of multiple new buildings, including UHV University South, UHV Northwest, University Commons and Don & Mona Smith Hall, according to the news article. He was instrumental in the university receiving a $2 million commitment for the construction of the Health & Wellness Center from the M.G. and Lillie A. Johnson Foundation.
The center is set to officially open this upcoming fall.
Glenn spearheaded the creation of UHVòòò½ÊÓƵ™s Aviation minor degree program. The program garnered over $3 million in funding from the 88th Texas Legislature for its development, according to the news article.
Under Glennòòò½ÊÓƵ™s leadership, the university received accreditations for multiple Bacheloròòò½ÊÓƵ™s degree programs: computer science from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, nursing from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and school psychology from the National Association of School Psychologists.
With the school psychology programòòò½ÊÓƵ™s accreditation, UHV became one of 13 Texas universities to be accredited by the National Association of School Psychologists.
òòò½ÊÓƵœIt has been an honor to serve the South Texas region as president of UHV,òòò½ÊÓƵ Glenn said in the news article. òòò½ÊÓƵœHigher education is not just a job, it is a calling. I have been blessed to be a part of bringing quality, affordable higher education opportunities to students in this region and beyond. As the university transitions to a new chapter in its history and I shift into the next stage of my life, I hope that I will leave a positive legacy to help the university and its students take those next steps.òòò½ÊÓƵ
The universityòòò½ÊÓƵ™s future as a branch of the University of Houston system is unsure. District 18 Texas Senator Lois Kolkhorst, along with District 7 Texas Senator Paul Bettencourt, filed Senate Bill 2361 which would transfer UHV to the Texas A&M University System. The bill has passed the Senate and will be voted on by the House of Representatives.
If passed by the House, it will move to Gov. Gregg Abbottòòò½ÊÓƵ™s office. If Abbott signs the bill into law, the school is scheduled to become part of the Texas A&M System on Sept. 1.
