ALEXANDRIA, La. (KLAX-TV)- This Sunday, the Pentecostals of Alexandria will mark a major milestone of 75 years of ministry in Central Louisiana. What began as a small church with 67 members has grown into one of the regionƵs most prominent houses of worship, led by three generations of the Mangun family.

The church was founded in 1950 by Bishop G.A. Mangun on the corner of 16th and Rapides. Since then, the congregation has experienced decades of spiritual growth, community outreach, and revival.

Bishop Anthony Mangun, son of the founder, recalls the early days with deep appreciation.

ƵWhen we first came to town, this is my daddy in the old T-model,Ƶ Mangun said. ƵHe would take that and put up a sign: ƵOld-fashioned Revival Now in Progress at the First Pentecostal Church.ƵƵ

Mangun took over pastoral duties from his father and helped the church expand its reach and mission, drawing thousands of services and special events.

ƵDad took this thing they had like 67 people and God began to anoint, and it grew and grew,Ƶ Mangun said.

A key part of the church's legacy is Sister Vestal Mangun, now 99 years old. She has been a pillar of the congregation since its founding and continues to play an active role.

ƵMy mother is 99, and sheƵll be 100 soon,Ƶ Bishop Mangun said. ƵShe taught Wednesday night class just a few weeks ago. She lives by herself, still drives an amazing lady. She is the exception, not the rule. And you build your life on the rule, not the exception.Ƶ

Now under the leadership of Senior Pastor Gentry Mangun, the church remains focused on honoring its past while looking toward the future.

ƵThis weekend is about giving honor where honor is due,Ƶ Pastor Mangun said. ƵIƵm privileged just to be part of that in any way, shape, or form.Ƶ

The 75th anniversary celebration service will be held Sunday at 10 a.m. on the church campus. Bishop Mangun expressed deep gratitude to those who have supported the church through the decades.

As the Pentecostals of Alexandria prepare for the next chapter, their mission remains the same to serve as a spiritual home rooted in love, family, and faith.
