Last weekend our nation celebrated her 249th birthday, with parades and events designed to recognize and honor the liberty we enjoy in the greatest nation in the world, the good olƵ USA.

By the time you read this article, July 4th is upon us. The day is a great reminder of our freedoms that we enjoy in this nation. For that, we should give thanks to God. I also recognize that there are among Americans various opinions about who our leaders should be, the values that they should promote, and the issues of our day that they should address. This article is not about those things

Abraham Lincoln said, ƵI have always found that mercy bears richer fruits than strict justice.Ƶ Smugness pulls the trigger on misdeeds, but mercy allows us to forgive. Mercy does not excuse the offense, but it can restore relationships and strengthen justice by maturing the offender. It can mean withholding punishment. It can also mean providing comfort for those who are suffering. Mercy is an act of kindness and caring for those who are unable to care for themselves and for those who donƵt deserve it. At its core is forgiveness and selflessness.
