ƵWe invite our supporters and their families out to enjoy the Zoo this 4th of JulyƵ said Texas Zoo Executive Director Bill Baker.

The Zoo is open from 9:00am to 4:00pm on July 4 th and features more than 80 species of animals.

The Texas ZooƵs mission is to connect the public to wildlife. Giving them the opportunity to learn the importance these animals serve to the environment and humans alike, inspiring them to protect our animals wild counterparts in their native habitat.

VICTORIA CITY CLOSINGS FOR JULY 4All nonemergency offices at the City of Victoria will close Friday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.

Ƶ The Victoria Public Library will be closed.

Ƶ The compost site will be closed.

Ƶ The landfill will be open.

Ƶ Garbage, curbside recycling, yard waste and/or tree limbs will be collected as normally scheduled.

Ƶ Riverside Golf Course will be open.

HOT FUND APPLICATIONSThe City of Victoria is accepting applications from organizations seeking hotel occupancy tax (HOT) funds for events and programs that bring overnight visitors to Victoria

Under state law, the City of Victoria collects a hotel occupancy tax from hotels, bed-and-breakfasts and other lodging facilities. The revenues collected may only be used to promote tourism and the convention and hotel industry.

Organizations that bring overnight visitors to VictoriaƵincluding arts, historical and sporting eventsƵare eligible to apply for hotel occupancy tax funds. Only those events and programs that generate meaningful hotel night activity will be considered.

All requests for funding must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. CDT on July 31. The application form is available at . Applicants should submit applications via email to jnovosad@victoriatx.gov.

Applications will be reviewed by a HOT funds subcommittee of the City of VictoriaƵs Tourism Advisory Board, and recommendations will be made to the City Council in September. The City Council will make final decisions on funding.

Informational sessions covering the HOT funds application process and the evaluation process will be held on the following dates at 700 N. Main St., conference room 205:

  • Thursday, July 3 at noon
  • Tuesday, July 8 at 6 p.m.
  • Monday, July 14 at noon
  • Thursday, July 17 at 6 p.m.

Attendance at an information session is part of the application process and will be taken into consideration during application scoring.

CITY SEEKS VOLUNTEERS FOR PLANNING COMMISSIONThe City of Victoria is seeking three residents to serve on the Planning Commission.

The commission reviews and approves new residential and commercial developments to ensure that City codes related to platting and site use are properly applied. The commission also makes recommendations to the City Council about variance requests for projects that conflict with City code. The commission meets at 5:15 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month at the City Council chambers, 105 W. Juan Linn St.

The City Council will appoint three commissioners to serve for three-year terms that will end in August 2028.
